Finding Happy Hobbies

Now, it might just be the holidays, but I've really been in my baking bag!

Holiday baking traditions with the family bring out the baker in me. Usually, I'm not the one in the kitchen. My mom and grandma are the master chefs of our family, and my sister has always taken to cooking more than me. Don't get me wrong, I can cook plenty of things—I just prefer not to.

But baking is different.

I mainly used to bake when I was depressed, but I grew to look forward to holiday baking as well. I've always enjoyed baking goods and treats, especially desserts, but the holidays embolden my desire to create everything yummy. I'm not quite sure how I came to enjoy baking outside of my depressive episodes. It could be the family fun, the music, or the Christmas cheer it brings, but I think the true answer is simple:

I simply love baking!

Now that I've admitted my creative desires, it's time to lean in and make this a joyful hobby of mine to experiment with and expand my curiosity. Why not spend my time in things that bring me present comfort? I mean, I might as well get some sweet treats out of this.

So reader, this is your sign to lean into your interests. Go after what makes you smile, even when you have reason not to. Take back your time with the things that make you feel alive. Life is meant to be lived, even when life isn't what we expect. Finding happiness in things that make your spirit shine is a great way to keep on living. Find that happiness for yourself, and continue on, happily.
